This
This. This is spinning around. Endlessly. Because his eyes are the sort of blue that blinds you, like a flash of sunlight across a mirror. This is the man that holds the whole world in his smile, balancing it between the two of you. That look on his face. It’s only for you. And they will never understand. They will never know that moment that passes between you as you step out into the night air. They have never known the sound of the light, warm breeze or the feel of it as it catches your shirt with a flutter. He’s sitting there, alone with his thoughts and the sound of the waves and every star in the sky and, above all, your heart. They will never understand him. No, they never have. They don’t even think you do. They don’t understand these moments of his, these pauses, these escapes. He’s not running. He’s waiting, for you. He doesn’t spin. You spin. You spin over and over and you crash into him. But he is a sure and steady thing. They have never understood that. They think he’s so skittish, so lost and distant. What they don’t know is that everything they cannot find in him is everything he has given to you to hold on to. He will not give it away cheaply and he will only give it to you. A smile balances on his lips as he breathes in the night and takes your hand. You promised to dance with him. He always holds you to your promises. He remembers every one. His fingers smooth the fabric of your shirt and you skim your hands along his thinness. You pull his fragile strength close. This place that neither one of you is seeing is beautiful. Everyone else is on the other side of the party, dancing and looking out to sea. They will never understand why this man, who is usually so fascinated by what exactly beauty is defined by, cannot take his eyes away from some rough and scraggly tangled man with fearsome curls and stubble and problems. They will never understand that to him this is beauty. Funny, since that’s all he’s ever really understood.
