Midnight Sun
He takes on a strange thinness under the moonlight and Howard studies him in his stillness, shifting silently in the shadows. For a moment he tries to see him how the rest of the world sees him. Just some beautiful, lonely shadow. And Howard can understand that. Because as he stands back, as he watches and holds his breath, Jason looks as though he has simply fallen there, whipped up by a passing breeze. Caught there by Howard’s branches. Howard’s thorns. Howard doesn’t want to touch him anymore, he doesn’t want to scratch his light. This night-owl, this poet, this wisp of light that tumbles into Howard’s life – and his bed – some silent midnights. Howard doesn’t understand why it is his arms, his eyes that make this fragmented star begin to blaze. But Howard is always there. He walks behind Jason’s light. Howard moves closer and Jason’s eyes come to meet him. Howard follows their pull. He touches his shine delicately. This man is his midnight sun.
