The Price Of Friendship
He feels like a prat – holed up in the men’s in one of Britain’s larger department stores, praying for security to turn up. What sort of a man hides in the loos? He’d forgotten what this life was like but he was starting to realise he hadn’t missed it all that much. He was sure he actually recognised one of those skittish women from the nineties; either she was one of Howard’s successful conquests who’d subsequently propositioned him too, or she was one of the less successful ones, whose comatose form he’d at some point had to step over to get out of a hotel room. Another woman makes Jason seriously begin to question whether it is her or him that should be too old for all this pantomime.
But then he starts to think about how much the other lads are going to tease him when they find out about this. If he’s lucky, Mark and Gary will ease up in a matter of days, but Howard won’t be letting this go for years. Yet that, Jason realises with a chuckle, is exactly the reason he puts himself through this. And yes, he thinks it’s worth it too.
